Malta Airport car hire pickup: the Park East walk-through
Where the rental desks actually are at Malta International Airport, how long the walk takes, which roster operators keep a desk there, and what to do when a company skips the desk altogether.
Last updated
Malta International Airport funnels almost every rental car company into one building, but exactly where to walk, how long it takes, and what happens when a company skips the desk entirely are questions most sites leave out of the small print. This guide covers the mechanics, with an original schematic of the route and every roster operator we can confirm keeps a desk there.
Where the desks actually are
Every rental desk clusters in the Park East building, Level 1 — not in the main terminal itself. From arrivals, exit the terminal via level -1, turn right, and it's about a three-minute walk.
Desk hours you can actually rely on
Malta Airport requires every concessionaire running a car-rental desk to staff it at least 8 hours a day. That's a floor, not a promise of round-the-clock cover — if you're landing very early, very late, or on a red-eye, confirm your specific company's hours before you fly, not after you land.
When a company skips the desk entirely
Not every operator serving MLA staffs a physical counter in Park East. OK Mobility, for one, runs a shuttle model instead: message +356 99339238 on WhatsApp when you land, and meet the driver at the "Mobile App Pickup" point on level -1. A number of small local operators skip the airport altogether and instead deliver the car to your hotel or meet you in the airport car park — often the cheapest route, according to local Malta car-hire guides. If a company's pickup method isn't a Park East desk, get the exact meeting point confirmed before you land, not after.

Before you land
- No International Driving Permit needed for most visitors. A valid national licence in Latin script is accepted for EU, UK, US, and most other nationalities.
- Malta drives on the left, one of only three EU countries to do so. Expect narrow roads and frequent roundabouts from the moment you leave the car park.
- Photos of the actual desks are on our list for after launch. This guide is text and schematic only for now, deliberately, rather than stock images that aren't the real thing.
