How we rank

How every operator score and every ranked list on this site is built.

How scores are built

Operators are ranked by an editorial score: traveler reviews (40%), deposit & payment friction (25%), fee & fuel transparency (20%), service & logistics (15%). Where public data covers only some of these factors, the score uses the available factors reweighted proportionally, and each profile shows which factors were used. Companies with too little public data are listed as "Unrated," after ranked companies. Commissions we may earn never influence scores or ordering — they only determine which booking partner a button links to, never how highly a company ranks. Review figures are third-party aggregates we relay with source and capture date; we do not verify individual reviews.

The four factors, in plain language

Traveler reviews — 40%
Published third-party rating aggregates, such as DiscoverCars supplier ratings, weighted by how many reviews back them up.
Deposit and payment friction — 25%
How much cash a renter has to put down, and whether a debit card is accepted, based on the operator's published deposit terms.
Fee and fuel transparency — 20%
Whether the fuel policy is refund-friendly (full-to-full) or not, plus how clearly excess and upsell terms are published.
Service and logistics — 15%
Pickup convenience — an airport desk or free delivery — opening hours, and how clearly Gozo-ferry policy is documented.

Why some companies are Unrated

Scoring a company honestly needs at least two of the four factors backed by a public source. Companies with fewer than two scoreable factors are listed as Unrated rather than guessed at, and always appear after every ranked company on the companies directory — never mixed in among them.
